Halloween tag

Hi everyone! Happy Tuesday – I hope your week is off to a good start and the weather is continuing to cool off! Our weather has been fabulous! I’m excited to share an inspiration project for the Mixed Up Merchandise Printables DT. I created a Halloween tag using the awesome Little People #1 Emily and FriendsGames Ephemera #1Poison Pharmacy Labels and Scary Halloween Words Printables! A fun inky time was had by all, lol! UPDATE: Mixed Up Magazine has apparently undergone some changes and their blog has moved, so these links may no longer be viable.

I went through my Printables stash and picked out all the ephemera I wanted to use, then picked out a handful of embellishments that I thought would compliment the ephemera I had picked out, and finally gathered several ribbon scraps in Halloween colors to tie to the top of the tag. I set everything aside to begin working on the tag background.

I applied texture paste over the mini harlequin stencil, covering most of the tag and attached a strip of torn black Kraft Core cardstock across the bottom. Once the texture paste was dry, I sprayed green, orange and purple ink (one at a time) in random spots over the tag, drying each color with the heat tool before applying the next. After the last color was applied, I set the tag aside while I tore some corrugated paper to place behind the tag and diagonally across the bottom, and prepared a few of the other elements… I fussy cut a little person, tagged her head (LOL, I know that sounds bad) and added some bling to her dress. I inked a hunk of cheesecloth with Black Soot distress ink. I applied several layers of gold embossing powder on the chipboard timepiece and added a game spinner. I placed orange, green, black, yellow and purple sequins in a small vial and glued in the cork.

I inked the edges of all the ephemera, distressed some, wrinkled some, and curled some corners, and then began laying everything down. Once I had the placement just how I wanted, I began adhering everything – some pieces with dimensional pads and some pieces adhered flat. I think this is actually my favorite part of creating… I love to see things “come to life!” To finish off the tag, I tied the ribbon at the top, protected the little person with a piece of copy paper, and splattered black gesso mixed with a little water over the tag.

Here are a few more close-up shots. I’m really loving how this turned out! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
