Thankful – Grateful – BLESSED

Hello, my crafty friends! I’m popping in today with a card that is not a design team project! It’s a long overdue ‘thank you’ to Dawn, a sweet lady who was a tremendous help to me re-stashing a good bit of my cardstock and papers that I lost when we moved to Colorado from Florida back in early May. She got me a 25% discount on a huge order which I thought was amazing!

For those of you who are not friends with me on Facebook, let me share my story real quick before I share my project. When we were moving here, my husband was pulling the fifth wheel and I was behind him pulling a small enclosed trailer. The interstate going through Louisiana is horrible (ruts, pot holes, separated concrete, eroded concrete) which beat the pure crap out of us, our five cats and our rigs. It was just awful. The bouncing, bamming and slamming broke the latch on the slide-out storage tray in the under-belly of the fifth wheel which slammed up against the door and broke the lock and two latches. Consequently, the tray slid out and several tubs of my scrapbooking supplies (cardstock, double-sided papers and embellishments) blew out all over the interstate.

As awful as it was, the litter was a beautiful array of color! I pulled over behind my husband and sat there watching as dozens of cars and trucks come through it with colored paper and cardstock sucked onto the grills of their vehicles! As much as I wanted to cry, I had to smile! There was too much traffic to get out to try to salvage anything. But he did fix the lock and latches on the door when we got to the next town and drilled a hole in the slide-out storage tray to put a huge bolt with nut in it, so it won’t ever slide out again while we’re traveling. Never, in a million years, did we expect something like that to happen. As much as fifth wheels cost, one would think the latches would be heavy-duty. I lost probably thousands of dollars worth of cardstock, paper and all kinds of crafty embellishments but at least we were safe. I have spent the last two months trying to re-stash paper, cardstock and embellishments, making a list as I discover what’s missing, and I’m no where near finished, lol!

Now for Dawn’s card that went out in the mail to her today. ;) I’m calling this a zig-zag fold. It was super easy, created with Stampin’ Up! Petals & Paisleys DSP. I cut a piece 12″ long by 5-1/4″ wide, found the middle point on one end and cut the piece in a long triangle. I scored it at 4″ and 8″, folded the score lines in zig-zag fashion, then inked the edges on both sides (including the fold lines). I cut a piece of Crushed Curry cardstock measuring 5-1/4″ x 4″ and inked the edges. I glued the pointed flap  to the middle third, then put adhesive on the back side of the larger third and adhered it to the Crushed Curry cardstock, lining up the edge. I cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and inked the edges, then adhered the main piece to it, leaving the back for a handwritten note and signature. I stamped the sentiment on Very Vanilla which I cut with a rectangle die and layered it on a slightly larger Soft Suede rectangular die cut. I adhered that to a piece of fun foam and then affixed it to the front flap. I added red gemstones because it needed some bling. :)

I kept the inside simple since the paper was busy. I stamped the sentiment on Very Vanilla which I cut with a rectangle die and layered it on a slightly larger Soft Suede rectangular die cut.

Update: This challenge blog abruptly closed down in mid-April, after only a couple challenges. :(

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a fantastic February – can you believe it’s just about over, lol! You’ll remember a few weeks back I announced that I joined the Season’s Greetings Christmas Challenge DT. All of our challenges are Anything Goes and there’s always an optional twist there to inspire you. I’m super stoked to share my debut DT inspiration project for Challenge #2 – Anything Goes with optional twist of Color Combo! The twist this time is this neat color combo:

2-color-combo

I created a one-layer card using three of these four colors along with a die and stamp set from my stash. One-layer cards are not easy for me but this one actually just came together like it was meant to be! Just look at these little guys! :D

This was the perfect opportunity to use the round dies from the new YNS Peek A Boo Trio die set.  I can’t tell you how in love I am with the adorable SU Cookie-Cutter Christmas stamp set with coordinating punch. The card name ‘Oh, what fun’ hits the nail right on the head, lol! This was a blast to make! The stamped sentiment, the stamped texture just above the circle die cuts, the bow ties on the gingerbread men and the scattered hearts all match the colors in the combo. I’m really loving how this turned out!

I kept the inside very simple with just a stamped sentiment. It felt very strange not having a layered panel to adhere, lol!
