Life is a Journey wall hanging

Hi everyone! Happy Hump Day! Today is my post day on the Paper Wings Productions blog and I’m happy to share a DT inspiration project using Art TexturesBig Art TexturesWriting Backgrounds and Kind Words stamp sets. I created a mixed media wall hanging. This is my last post for Paper Wings Productions and I wanted to create something really neat! Life is definitely a journey and we need to make the most of it! I’d like to thank Carrie and the rest of the design team for having me along this term. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself!

DSCF3938

I started with a 5×5 Gessobord and then added a torn piece of corrugated paper, a piece of fabric mesh and a rusted metal heart attached to a swivel clasp.

DSCF3939

I applied some crackle paste as well as some distress grit paste with a stencil. From there, I added an assortment of gears, charms, a book clip, buttons, beads, flowers, and sea glass, and then covered everything in white gesso. Several of the items were repurposed- the fabric mesh, a pop-top and a hard plastic ring.

DSCF3942

Then came the fun part of inking it up with red, pink, orange and yellow India inks, spritzing with water and letting it run. I rubbed gold acrylic paint over all the surfaces and then I did some random stamping with black StazOn ink. I splattered watered-down white Gesso over the entire piece with a fan brush.

The final step was adding the pieces of paper straws, the sentiment and the twine for hanging. Loving how this turned out!

Okay, let me side-track you for a minute or three to showcase my project! I created a sparkly New Year’s card with a vintage feel using a sentiment from the Say It- Winter Greetings Clear Stamp Set  and an adorable image from the Vintage Creative New Year Clip Art Sheet. It felt good to create a New Year’s card after all the Christmas cards I made, lol!

2017_11300001a

I created the background by repetitively stamping “HAPPY new year” on a piece of ivory cardstock in Ground Espresso distress ink, and adhered this to a brown card base. I layered the vintage image on red cardstock, popped it up on foam tape and then layered it on another piece of slightly larger red cardstock, and centered this on the stamped background. I cut several strips of red glitter paper and outlined the stamped background, overlapping the corners.

2017_11300002a

I added a tiny red Dot Sparkler to each of the four corners of the image, and affixed a simple brown jute cord bow to the bottom center of the image.

2017_11300003a

I stamped a sentiment on the inside panel layered on red cardstock and embellished it with a strip of red glitter paper.

hello Gorgeous

Hi everyone! Happy Hump Day! Today is my post day on the Paper Wings Productions blog and I’m excited to share a DT inspiration project using the Vintage Domino Melange, Vintage Melange and Sayings and Sentiments stamp sets. I created a fun accordion style birthday book with a twine bow closure.

2017_09150001a

I cut the accordion base from kraft cardstock. I then cut the cover pieces and all the background pieces with a stitched rectangle die. I stamped the large flourish from the Vintage Melange stamp set on the front and back covers in brown ink. The front and inside sentiments are both from the Sayings and Sentiments stamp set. I heat embossed the front sentiment in gold, cut the two words apart and affixed them to the front above and below the twine line.

2017_09150002a

I stamped all nine domino-sized images from the Vintage Domino Melange stamp set on kraft cardstock and colored each with Spectrum Noir markers in a very basic fashion. I cut each image with a slightly smaller stitched rectangle die, layered each one onto a brown die cut and then adhered them to the accordion base. The birthday sentiment on the last panel is also from the Sayings and Sentiments stamp set, and is small enough to leave room to sign the book! ;)

2017_09150003a

Here are closer shots of the images. What a super fun project – and I’m thrilled with how it turned out!

Okay, let me side-track you for a minute or three to showcase my projects! I’m still adding to my pile of Christmas cards – my plan is to have them all finished and ready to mail by December 1st and that’s only a month away! I created a pair of  ‘traditions’ Christmas cards using almost all of the sentiments in the Say It- Winter Greetings Clear Stamp Set  and a few sentiments from the Mix It Up Clear Stamp Set which just happens to be on sale right now!

2017_11020001a

These were fun and really easy. I arranged all the sentiments in a collage fashion on my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform and stamped them on a quarter-sheet of cardstock. I duplicated a few of the sentiments to fill in ‘holes’ and then trimmed the edges and cut the piece in two.

2017_11020002a

I layered the stamped collage pieces on red glitter paper and then two layers of torn vellum, and adhered them to the front of the card bases along with the holly sprays.

2017_11020002a

I embellished the holly with red Crystal Drops.

2017_11020003a

The inside is the same on both cards, which I kept very simple with just a stamped sentiment using stamps from the Mix It Up Clear Stamp Set. I’m tickled with how these turned out!

Let me interrupt you for a minute to showcase my project! I created a clean and simple ‘Fall thanks’ card with a whimsical feel using sentiments from the Sayings & Sentiments and the Kind Words stamp sets and bright Fall-colored cardstock. I’m loving CAS these days!

2017_10020001a

I’m, by no means, an artist but I did make my own pumpkins! I have to admit, I was a little concerned at first, lol, but once I got them put together, I loved them! I hand-cut the pieces from different orange and green cardstock scraps and inked them in Rich Cocoa ink. I drew whimsical highlights on all the pieces with a rich Cocoa marker and put the pumpkins together. I stamped the simple sentiment from the Sayings & Sentiments stamp set in the Rich cocoa ink in the lower right corner then adhered a dark brown cardstock strip just above it. I adhered the pumpkins and added a few dots of Crystal Drops to finish off the front.

2017_10020002a

The inside sentiment is from the Kind Words stamp set, also stamped in the Rich Cocoa ink. All in all, I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out! Both of these sentiment stamp sets are pretty amazing and would be a wonderful addition to anyone’s stash!

Wings art journal spread

Hi everyone! Happy Hump Day! Today is my post day on the Paper Wings Productions blog and I’m super stoked to share a DT inspiration project using Art Textures stamp setBird Beauty stamp setVintage Cuties Clip Art SheetFlower Power stamp setWings stamp set and Mini Wings stamp set. I created my first-ever art journal pages and am very happy with how they turned out!

I began by stamping random textures in black ink from the Art Textures stamp set over both pages and around the edges. I then brushed gesso over both pages and let dry. I rolled a thin layer of pink acrylic paint (red and white mixed) with a brayer over both pages and let dry.

2017_09210009a

Using a spatula, I applied opaque matte texture paste over a stencil in several places on both pages. When dry, I spritzed a little water and sprayed the Cranberry ink. I let the ink run in some places and lightly blotted it in other places.

2017_09210010a

I stamped the sentiment on the lower right page and then splattered watered-down black gesso over both pages.

2017_09210011a

I layered a vintage cutie on pearlized cardstock and then again on some torn cardstock, sewed around the edges, and adhered it to the left side. I stamped and fussy cut one large and two small butterflies, colored them with Spectrum Noir markers and added some Shimmer Pico Embellisher to all the wings.

2017_09210012a

I also stamped two yellow flowers and two pink flowers, fussy cut them and added Shimmer Pico Embellisher to those as well. I adhered the butterflies with Tim Holtz gam spinner bodies and the flowers.

2017_09210013a

Here’s one final shot – a close-up of the sentiment. I just love this!

get WELL soon

Hi everyone! Happy Hump Day – hope you’re all having a great week! Today is my post day on the Paper Wings Productions blog and I’m happy to share a DT inspiration project using the Flower Power stamp set along with the Sayings and Sentiments stamp set, Perfect Pearls and a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Buckle. I created a pretty get well card with a vintage feel.

I stamped several flowers from the Flower Power stamp set randomly over white cardstock with the Perfect Medium in the Perfect Pearls Jewel kit. The Perfect Medium stamped in a light brown which I thought was odd because I remembered it stamping clear the last time I used it several years ago, lol! I applied the green, blue, red and purple Perfect Pearls powders anyway and got a muted vintage look to all the colors. I guess that’s what happens when you use ‘aged’ Perfect Medium, lol! But I sure like the way it turned out! I lightly misted the panel with water to bind the powders so they don’t rub off. I cut the background and the rest of the white and brown bag cardstock layers with the matting dies.

2017_09040008a

I stamped the sentiment in Frayed Burlap distress ink on a narrow strip of white cardstock cut with a matting die from the same set, layered it on the brown bag cardstock, added a buckle and adhered it to the front. I finished the front with several flat-back pearls.

2017_09040009a

For the inside, I decorated the white layered panel with a leftover strip of the stamped florals and kraft cardstock used on the front. I left the inside blank for a handwritten message.
