Hero Arts Oldtimer’s Happy Birthday

Hi everyone! It’s already the middle of September… another few weeks closer to Christmas, lol! I’m posting today on the a2z Scrapbooking blog and I’m happy to share a DT inspiration project using several Hero Arts products – Irreverent Birthday Messages stamp set, blessings Stamp & Cut, Intense Black ink, and White Embossing Powder. I created a fun 3-D birthday card featuring birthday sentiments for ‘old’ people as well as a pop-up instant one-step camera from back in the day! Remember those?!

Before I get to my project details, quite a few of the Hero Arts stamp sets have sold out in the a2z Scrapbooking store and unfortunately the Irreverent Birthday Messages stamp set was one of those that sold out. I work ahead and had this card made prior to this stamp set selling out. Seems this has been happening to me a lot lately, lol! But I have good news – you can special order it at no extra cost when you order your other Hero Arts stamps from a2Z Scrapbooking!

The stamped image and sentiments on the front are all from the Hero Arts Irreverent Birthday Messages stamp set.

2017_09040004a

I stamped a genuine (from the heart) sentiment above the camera from the Hero Arts blessings Stamp & Cut set in Hero Arts Black Intense ink.

2017_09040005a

This was probably one of the most fun cards I’ve ever created. I had one of these cameras and I’m pretty sure I chuckled throughout the entire process of making this, lol!

2017_09040006a

I went back to the Hero Arts Irreverent Birthday Messages stamp set for the sentiment on the ‘instant camera picture’ which I embossed in Hero Arts White Embossing Powder. Love how this turned out! :)

Hero Arts L-O-V-E

** 10/10/17 Top Pick at Sweet Stampers Challenge Blog! **

Hi everyone! Happy Sunday – hope you have a fantastic week coming up!  Today is my post day on the a2z Scrapbooking blog and I’m happy to share a DT inspiration project using Hero Arts Love by Lia and Hero Arts Romeo & Juliet stamp sets! I created a shabby chic Valentine with lots of layers and lots of ink!

I had an absolute blast creating this card. I wanted a few red heat-embossed elements and don’t have any red embossing powder, so the L-O-V-E sentiment and three hearts from the Love by Lia stamp set were stamped in Versamark over top of red ink then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. This is an awesome trick you can use to make it appear like you have virtually any color embossing powder!

2017_08080001a

I started with a watercolored background using Scarlet and Brilliant Red Brusho powders. Then I went through a couple ephemera packs and pulled out quite a few elements that I wanted to use, distressed the edges, and started laying them down.

2017_08080002a

When I was happy with the placement, I started adhering the pieces. Some were adhered flat and some have foam tape under them for a little dimension. I fussy cut the embossed hearts and added a game spinner for the butterfly body, a twine bow and a strip of fabric roses. I splattered watered-down Walnut Stain distress ink over the entire panel and added some Crystal Drops. LOTS to feast the eyes upon, lol!

2017_08080003a2017_08080004a2017_08080005a2017_08080006a

I stamped a sentiment and more hearts from the Romeo & Juliet stamp set on the inside panel, hand-drew a couple wavy lines down the left side and distressed the edges, then layered the panel on black cardstock. Really loving how this turned out!

altered paint brush

** 9/10/17 Featured Project at Use Your Stuff Challenge Blog! **
** 9/25/17 Featured Creation at Scrapping4fun Challenges! **
** 9/30/17 DT Favorite Winner at Classic Design Team Open Challenge Blog! **

Hi everyone! Happy Friday! I posted earlier this week that I’ve joined the Mixed Up Merchandise Printables DT and I’m super stoked to share my debut inspiration project! I created an altered paint brush which features a sentiment from the awesome Snarky Words Printables! OMG, a good inky time was had by all! I started out wearing gloves and my hands started sweating so I took the gloves off, had a drink of water and decided to eat some lunch while stuff was drying. When I got back to the project, I totally forgot to put the gloves back on, so I’m still sporting nice shades of blue and green ink on my fingers and hands, lol! UPDATE: Mixed Up Magazine has apparently undergone some changes and their blog has moved, so these links may no longer be viable.

2017_09040001a

This is the first paint brush I’ve ever altered – it’s been on my “To Do List” for a while so I decided that my debut project for the Mixed Up Merchandise Printables DT was the time to do one! I painted it with white gesso, then added texture with a mini dots stencil and texture paste on the handle (top portion above the metal band). I added lace trim and a handmade air clay embellishment on the metal band, then another coat of gesso and some crackle paint over the texture on the handle.

2017_09040002a

Then the fun began… spritzes of water and Ranger Adirondack Color Wash in Lettuce, Stream, Denim and Purple Twilight, along with more spritzes of water here and there, letting the ink run.

2017_09040003a

When the colors were exactly how I wanted them, I let everything dry and added some texture stamping and the #limitededition word strip that I inked with distress ink. I filled the center well on the air clay embellishment with Prills. First time I’ve ever used these and I think I like ’em! I added distress ink to the edges around the entire brush.

2017_09040004a

I added a chipboard leaf that I coated in Versamark and then heat embossed in Pewter embossing powder (I did this three times). Then I adhered a multi-loop bow with with a single rhinestone on top of it and some bamboo cord looped beneath it. You know I love my bows and I’ve been creating mostly CAS cards lately which haven’t had bows. I guess I was going through withdrawal, lol!

2017_09040005a

One final look. So very happy with how this turned out!

get WELL soon

Hi everyone! Happy Hump Day – hope you’re all having a great week! Today is my post day on the Paper Wings Productions blog and I’m happy to share a DT inspiration project using the Flower Power stamp set along with the Sayings and Sentiments stamp set, Perfect Pearls and a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Buckle. I created a pretty get well card with a vintage feel.

I stamped several flowers from the Flower Power stamp set randomly over white cardstock with the Perfect Medium in the Perfect Pearls Jewel kit. The Perfect Medium stamped in a light brown which I thought was odd because I remembered it stamping clear the last time I used it several years ago, lol! I applied the green, blue, red and purple Perfect Pearls powders anyway and got a muted vintage look to all the colors. I guess that’s what happens when you use ‘aged’ Perfect Medium, lol! But I sure like the way it turned out! I lightly misted the panel with water to bind the powders so they don’t rub off. I cut the background and the rest of the white and brown bag cardstock layers with the matting dies.

2017_09040008a

I stamped the sentiment in Frayed Burlap distress ink on a narrow strip of white cardstock cut with a matting die from the same set, layered it on the brown bag cardstock, added a buckle and adhered it to the front. I finished the front with several flat-back pearls.

2017_09040009a

For the inside, I decorated the white layered panel with a leftover strip of the stamped florals and kraft cardstock used on the front. I left the inside blank for a handwritten message.

Let me side-track you for a moment to showcase my projects. I created a set of two masked ‘Thanks’ note cards – one in warm colors with gold mirror cardstock accent and one in cool colors with silver mirror cardstock accent – using the FABulous Art Textures and Sayings and Sentiments stamp sets along with a variety of distress oxide inks. Oh my gosh… a good inky time was had by all!

2017_08290007a

These were super easy CAS cards. I cut a piece of white cardstock in quarters and used two of them (one for each card). I tore two pieces of masking paper about two inches longer than the cardstock quarter and masked part of the left side and most of the right side of the cardstock piece, anchoring it down to my craft sheet with the extra inch of masking paper on the top and bottom. This left a vertical ‘channel’ of cardstock which I inked with three colors of distress inks, overlapping and blending as I went. I then randomly stamped all the images in the Art Textures stamp set in black ink, covering the inked cardstock ‘channel’. When I was happy with the result, I carefully removed the masking paper and trimmed the inked/stamped portion, leaving a narrow margin of white on both sides. I adhered that to the mirror cardstock and trimmed it again, leaving a narrow margin of mirror cardstock on both sides. I adhered the trimmed piece to the card base and then stamped the sentiment from the Sayings and Sentiments stamp set in the lower right corner with the black ink.

2017_08290002a

For the inside, I adhered a strip of the mirror cardstock down the left side of a white panel and then layered the panel on colored cardstock. I left the inside blank to write a custom message. I finished the front with several dots of Crystal Drops.

2017_08290003a

Here are pics of the other card in cool colors, created the same way.

Let it Snow

Hi everyone! I’m back yet again this morning, this time to showcase a guest designer project for the September Anything Goes challenge over at Your Scrapbook Place! One of my cards was a winner a few weeks back and the lovely Holley invited me to be a guestie for the next several challenges! Of course, I couldn’t say no, lol! We are being sponsored this month by Pickled Potpourri and I created a Double Fun Fold using the Christmas Window image. OMG, I’m so smitten! This was great fun! I was very happy to have Santa and his reindeer in my rubber stamp stash to compliment the image.

2017_08140001a

The focal image on the front opens to the right to reveal a stamped sentiment on the tall panel beneath.

2017_08140002a

Then the tall panel opens upward to reveal yet another stamped sentiment and cozy cabin image! How cute is this fold?! Love, love, love! Thanks, Dawn, for the inspiration! <3

Just give it some time.

Hello again, crafty friends! You can’t get rid of me yet, lol! A new challenge over at Mix It Up Challenge Blog is live this morning and I’m super stoked to share my DT inspiration project for MIUCB #5 – Anything Goes + Inlaid Die Cut! I created a pretty CAS encouragement note card using stamps and dies from Stampin’ Up, and pretty Doodlebug Design papers. I thoroughly enjoyed myself – this was very therapeutic. I love dragonflies anyway, and it was just lots of fun picking out the papers and inlaying the die cut pieces!

2017_07130001a

I’ve been on a CAS kick lately, making cards I would have never seen myself making a few years ago. CAS has always been challenging because I like big bows (I cannot lie) and lots of layers, lol! I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. I LOVE these Doodlebug Design papers because they are so soft and made the prettiest dragonflies! I finished the front with a few Pretty Pink Posh sequins, and left the inside blank to write a custom note.

Make Today Amazing

Hi everyone! I’m baaaaack! The first of the month always means a few posts from me, so grabba cuppa and chill out with me for a bit, lol! A new challenge is live this morning over at Love To Craft Challenge Blog and I’m stoked to share my DT inspiration project for LTCCB #14 – September Anything Goes! I created a fun box card using a fairly minimal supply list. I love it when that happens! And how stinkin’ cute is this?!

1-Leslie

Seems I can’t get enough of my Scan N Cut over the past several months and I’m making all kinds of fun projects. Because I’ve bought a gazillion cut files. My hubby thinks I’m nuts, lol! I’m absolutely smitten with this cut file from SVG Cuts!

2017_06070015a

It doesn’t get any easier than this – a couple pieces of cardstock and a couple pieces of coordinating patterned paper. I cut the flowers from white cardstock and colored them with Spectrum Noir markers. The centers were cut from a scrap of Glitter Silk cardstock.

2017_06070016a

The back of the card has a cut-out that reveals a stamped sentiment. Love, love, love!

2017_06070017a

Here’s a shot of the card with it’s matching envelope, also included in the cut file.

2017_06070018a

And a final shot showing that it folds flat for mailing! I see a few more of these in my future, lol!
