Hi everyone, happy Monday! I hope you had a good weekend… Mondays sure roll around quickly these days, don’t they?! I’m up on the CutCardStock blog today with a tutorial for making a herringbone bookmark. I used Lessebo Pitch Black along with Classic Crest 165# Double Thick Solar White cardstock, for a timeless black and white monochromatic color combo.
I found an old paper pack in my stash with all black/gray/white patterns that I wanted to use. Plus it’s been a while since I’ve made a bookmark (or a herringbone background), so I thought what the heck, let’s make one using black and white cardstock along with this paper pack. The herringbone design for backgrounds is really fun and easy, I’ve got some more good card design ideas floating around in my head using this design, so stay tuned!

Not going into a huge amount of detail here, so be sure to check out my tutorial on the CutCardStock blog. I cut the bookmark and one extra top piece from Lessebo Pitch Black cardstock and used the Stampin’ Up scalloped tag topper punch on both pieces. I created the herringbone pattern with strips of patterned paper from the Docrafts Papermania Capsule Collection. I stamped/heat embossed a simple sentiment, flicked gesso and water over the top piece, and added a horizontal paper strip. I threaded some Keep It Simple Back to Basics Black and White gingham ribbon through the hole and tied it with a piece of Doodlebug Design Lily White Doodle Twine.

I added a panel of Classic Crest 165# Double Thick Solar White to the back of the bookmark, rounded the bottom corners, and inked the edges with Ranger black soot distress ink. I thought it might be fun to write a personal note on the back for the recipient.
