love you lots!

Hey everybody! How in the world can it be May already?! Better start gearing up for those Father’s Day cards and projects because it’ll be here in a flash! I’m up on the CutCardStock blog today with a tutorial for making a very cool empty-nester Dad’s Day card using some awesome cardstock and the third car die in the Spellbinders classic car series. I mentioned a while back that I got all the hot rods, several companion die sets, and some stamps from that new Spellbinders suite of products last year and am just now getting around to using the last car. I sure do love these!

I won’t go into a huge amount of detail here, so be sure to see my tutorial on the CutCardStock blog if you’re interested in seeing how I made this. I used a Lynx White A2 Folded Card Base – these are 120# and super smooth and sturdy! Background panel was cut from a hearts print in the Keep It Simple Happy Birthday 12×12 Collection Pack using a Love From Lizi Stitched Rectangle Nested Cutting Die. I cut the starburst from Stardream Metallic Jupiter and again from Stardream Metallic Eris using the Stampin’ Up Sunburst Thinlit.

For the hot rod, I used Stardream Metallic Jupiter for the body; Stardream Metallic Eris for the top and headliner; Neenah Classic Crest 110# Solar White for the lights and tire centers; Pop Tone Black Licorice for the steering wheel, under-carriage and wheels; and Bright Silver Foil for the grill, bumper and other trim. I used a Copic Ciao C-1 alcohol marker to make the headliner just a tad darker. I stamped and heat-embossed a sentiment at the bottom of a vellum oval die, adhered the hot rod and a few punched tiny hearts along with a few clear gemstones.

I cut the inside panel from 80# Solar White and embellished it with a leftover strip of the hearts print used on the front. I stamped another sentiment from the same stamp set and layered the panel on Jupiter cardstock. I have to say that this would have made an especially fun Valentine but since I didn’t get it made in time I aimed for the empty-nester Dad’s Day, which worked out perfectly! I’m sure you’ll agree that even when the kids are grown and out of the house, mom needs to spoil dad just a little! ;)
